Orange and Blue Men's Tennis Team Picks up 4-3 Home Win Over Duquesne

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell junior co-captain Todd Jacobs (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) won a crucial singles match to help Bucknell on its way to a 4-3 victory over visiting Duquesne on Sunday afternoon. The Bison are now 1-0 in the fall season.
The Orange and Blue went up 1-0 over the Dukes after winning the doubles point with a clean sweep. Senior co-captain Alex Davydov (Middlebury, Vt./Middlebury) and freshman Nick Denefrio (Schenectady, N.Y./Niskayuna) teamed up at the first doubles flight to defeat Duquesne's David Brady and Ryan Moseley, 8-4. Jacobs and freshman Leland Tien (State College, Pa./State College) paired up at second doubles, earning a 8-3 win over Vicente Arias and Don MacNeil. The duo of seniors Scott Allen (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) and Lee Scarborough (Wilmington, Del./A.I. Dupont) completed the sweep with a 8-1 victory over Mike Lydecker and Joe Yeckley at third doubles.
In singles action, Duquesne claimed the number one spot with David Brady defeating Davydov, 6-0, 6-4. The Dukes also took two and three in singles action to keep their hopes alive. At second singles, BU's Denefrio forced a third set after dropping the first 2-6 and coming back to win the second 6-4, but Duquesne's Moseley claimed the third set 6-3 for the win. Third singles saw Allen dropping a 4-6, 3-6 decision to Arias.
Tien and freshman Gerald DiChiara (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) were victorious at fifth and sixth singles, respectively. Tien defeated Yeckley 6-1, 6-2, and DiChiara picked up a 6-2, 6-2 victory to put Bucknell back in position to win the match. Jacobs came through at fourth singles with an exciting 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 win over MacNeil to give the Bison the 4-3 triumph.
Bucknell is in action next on Sat.-Sun., October 13-14 at the Patriot League Individual Tournament at Lehigh.
