PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Senior Nathan Hopfinger (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) scored his second goal of the season to even the score, 1-1, late in the first half, but host Philadelphia tallied twice in the second stanza to hand Bucknell a 3-1 loss on Wednesday. The loss moves the Bison to 2-5 overall, 0-5 on the road, this season.
Philadelphia senior Rob Miller broke a scoreless tie with his first goal of the season at the 22:56 mark, with help on an assist from senior John Westfield. With less than five minutes remaining in the opening frame, Bucknell senior Ryan Weber (Longmont, Colo./Niwot) stripped the Rams goalkeeper, Joe Pollock, and passed the ball to Hopfinger for the score to knot the game 1-1 heading into the intermission.
However, junior forward Jason Dzielak put Philadelphia back on top early in the second half with his second goal of the season. Westfield added the Rams third goal less than three minutes later to make it a two-goal cushion at the 59:08 mark.
With just under twenty minutes to play, Hopfinger had the opportunity to get Bucknell back within one on a penalty kick, but Pollock made the save on the play to preserve the two-goal advantage. Pollock ended the game with six saves, while Bison goalkeeper Kevin Clifford (Marlton, N.J./Holy Cross) recorded four stops.
The Orange and Blue return home for a 1:00 p.m. game on Sunday, October 7, against Patriot League newcomer American.
