
Bucknell Men's Water Polo Earns Eighth Place at ECAC Championship

BOSTON, Mass. - The Bucknell men's water polo team completed competition at the ECAC Championship, being held at Harvard on Friday-Sunday, October 26-28. With a 10-5 victory over George Washington and an 11-6 defeat to Johns Hopkins, the second-ranked Division III school in the nation, the Bison claimed eighth place at the tournament.
The Orange and Blue got three goals each from sophomore Jamie Saettele (St. Louis, Mo./Ladue Horton Watkins) and junior Chris Saxton (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) in the George Washington victory. In addition, Saettele contributed two assists, and was 4-4 in the sprinting category. Freshmen Elliot Benoist (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis County Day) and James Danforth (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos) also had solid games for the Bison. Benoist tallied one goal and handed out a team-high four assists. In addition to his one assist, Danforth hauled in a squad-best six steals.
Senior David Kennedy (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Country Day) made 11 saves in the contest in the net, while also recording three steals.
In the loss to Johns Hopkins, it was Benoist on offense and Danforth on defense again. Benoist had a team-best three goals and one assist in the 11-6 defeat to the second-ranked Division III team in the country, while Danforth racked up three steals to lead the squad. Kennedy made five stops in the cage for Bucknell.
The Orange and Blue fall to 9-14 overall and will compete in the Southern Division Championship on Friday-Sunday, November 2-4. Bucknell faces George Washington at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, before challenging Washington & Jefferson at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
