Dincher Leads Women's Soccer to 3-0 Win Over Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. - Ashley Dincher waited until just the right time to score her first two collegiate soccer goals. The freshman found pay dirt in the 22nd and 26th minutes of Bucknell's 3-0 shutout over Patriot League foe Lafayette College this evening, and helped the Bison clinch a spot in the upcoming Patriot League tournament.
With the win the Bison surged to second place in the league standings at 4-2-0 while improving to 9-4-0 overall. Lafayette dropped to 10-6-0 and 3-3-0 in league play.
The game was scoreless for the opening 21:29 before the Bison broke it open with a three-goal flurry over a 3:31 span. Dincher connected with a low shot following a corner at the 21:30 mark to put the Bison ahead 1-0. Just 1:10 later sophomore Savannah Rennels converted another corner when she bounced in a header into the upper corner of the net for her team-leading ninth goal of the season. Dincher then knocked in a dropped ball by Lafayette's keeper on a cross at the 25:01 mark to complete Bucknell's offensive surge.
Bucknell out-shot Lafayette 7-4, and junior goalie Laurie Purse picked up one save as she recorded her second straight shutout.
The Bison return home this week for a pair of matches. On Tuesday the team hosts non-league opponent Cornell at 3 p.m., and on Saturday Patriot League front-runner Navy visits Lewisburg at 2 p.m. in Bucknell's final regular season league match of the season.
