BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Freshman Megan Farrell scored her team-leading third game-winning of the season 17:10 into the first half, and the Bucknell University women's soccer team shut out the Lehigh Mountain Hawks 2-0 in Patriot League action this evening at Ulrich Field.
Bucknell broke a two-match losing streak with the win and improved to 8-4-0 and 3-2-0 in the Patriot League. The Bison also moved into a three-way tie with American University and Lafayette College for second place in the league standings. Lehigh dropped to 4-11-0 and 2-3-0 in the league.
Farrell put the Bison on top 1-0 when she converted off a feed from junior Lauren Schwarz. Farrell's goal was her third of the season, and all three have been game-winners. That's all the offense the Bison would need for the evening, as junior goalie Laurie Purse made four saves en route to her second shutout of the season.
Sophomore Savannah Rennels tacked on an insurance goal for the Bison with 16:16 remaining in the contest to extend her team-leading goal total to eight. Freshman Michelle Santonacita notched her second career assist on the tally.
The Bison travel to Lafayette on Saturday for another Patriot League contest beginning at 7 p.m.
