Cross Country Teams Compete at Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. - While the top Bucknell University cross country runners competed at the Pre-NCAA Meet at Furman University, the remainder of the teams were in action this afternoon at the Leopard Invitational, hosted by Lafayette College. While the men's team placed fifth out of 10 teams with a 153-point score, the women's squad finished ninth among 12 schools with a 225-point mark.
Sophomore Marcus Jones led the men's team, placing 20th in the 105-man field in 27:04. Sophomore Eric Heikkila came in 24th, covering the five-mile course in 27:15, and senior Mike Euell was 31st in 27:26. Other Bison who counted toward the team score were freshman Carl Schmidt (51st, 28:09) and sophomore Mike McCarthy (52nd, 28:10).
On the women's side, freshman Kelly Raffety paced the Bison with her 33rd place finish, as she raced over the 6,000 meter women's course in 22:44. Sophomore Cecily Cairns was the next Bison to cross the line, as she took 35th out of 110 harriers in 22:47. Freshmen Jennifer Marsh (56th, 23:30), Carolyn Mateskon (66th, 23:50) and Isabel Stettinius (70th, 23:59) also figured into the team scoring.
The Bison will take a week off to prepare for the Patriot League Championships on Oct. 27 at Colgate University.
