Bucknell Men's Soccer Goalie Earns Spot in Final National Statistics

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Freshman men's soccer goalkeeper Steve Whitaker (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) has finished his rookie season ranked 27th in the nation in saves per game, according the final statistics, released on January 6, 2001.
Whitaker, who stepped into the starting role just six games into the season, finished the year with 92 saves for a saves per game average of 5.75. The frosh allowed only six goals in 585 minutes of Patriot League play, while stopping 43 shots, for a goals against average of 0.92 and a save percentage of .878 in conference action. He finished the 2000 season with an 8-6-2 overall record and posted five shutouts.
Bucknell finished the season with an overall record of 9-10-2. The Bison, picked to finish fifth in the Patriot League preseason poll, ended the year with a 4-2 mark in league play and shared the regular-season title with Lafayette. For the first time in seven years, the Orange and Blue earned a berth in the Patriot League Tournament.
