LEWISBURG, Pa. - For the fifth year in a row, the Bucknell men's soccer team has earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas Team Academic Award. The six-year-old award has consistently grown with only nine schools honored the first year and 138 (men's and women's combined) earning this season's accolades.
The award, presented during the 2001 NSCAA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind., Jan. 17-21, is based on the academic performance of a team during the previous academic year (both semesters). To be eligible for the award a team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.00 for the year based on a 4.00 scale. Only athletes who appear on a varsity roster during the soccer season are eligible in calculating the grade point average. All soccer players on the roster must be included in the calculation.
Bucknell, the only men's team to win the award five consecutive times, ranked 16th among the 34 men's teams honored with a 3.13 gpa.
