Swimming and Diving Comes Away With Huge Victory Over Lehigh In Freas Pool

Lewisburg, Pa. --- The Bucknell men's and women's swimming and diving teams came away from Saturday afternoon with two huge victories over Patriot League rival, Lehigh. The sweep of the Mountain Hawks was the Bison's first since the 1991-92 season.
The men's team defeated the Mountain Hawks for the first time since the 1991-92 season on the strength of eight first-place finishes, which included two relay victories. Junior Chris Neary (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) was the only two-time winner for the Bison as he touched the wall first in both the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly with times of 20.91 and 50.68, respectively. Both victories for Neary place him in the record books as he set new Freas Pool records. The records were previously owned by the great Jim Harvey.
The sophomore class represented BU well as Michael Guskey (Lexington, Kent./Tates Creek) won the 100-yard breaststroke in 59.36 and Chris Feinthel (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) finished ahead of the pack in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:55.91. Feinthel's time in the 200-yard backstroke puts him in 9th place on the Bucknell all-time performer's chart.
Rounding out the Bison victories were two outstanding performances from freshmen Peter Garvin (Silver Spring, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) and Jack Sheehan (Wenonah, N.J./Gateway Regional). Garvin won the 100-yard freestyle in 47.16 and Sheehan was victorious in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:58.90. Both relay teams for the men, the 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle, came away with victories as well.
The women's team, paced by ten victories and one pool record, beat Lehigh for the first time since the 1993-94 season. Sophomore Darby Golino (Milford, Conn./Our Lady of Academy) stole the show by taking first place in three events. Golino won both the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke events by finishing with times of 59.94 and 2:07.87, respectively. She completed the hat-trick when she found the wall in 2:12.23 in the 200-yard IM. Junior Abby Weaver (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) was the only other multi-event winner for the Bison as she swept the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events. Weaver finished the 50-yard in 24.67, two hundredths better than her previous best, retaining her fifth place spot on the all-time performers chart.
The women's team wasn't going to be out done by the men's team as freshman Daniella Faas (Ludwigshafen, Germany/Worcester Academy) set a pool record of her own in the 500-yard freestyle. Faas won the event with a blazing time of 5:09.76, which sets a new Freas Pool record and puts her in the fifth spot on the all-time performers chart. Also victorious for the women were freshman Sarah Petcavage (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) in the one meter diving event with a score of 208.28 and senior tri-captain Molly Lowe (Hamilton Square, N.J./Steinert) with a time of 1:00.37 in the 100-yard butterfly.
The men's team improves to 7-2 and 3-1 in the conference while the women's team rises up to a 6-3 overall record and a 3-1 Patriot League record. The two teams will compete have two weeks to prepare for the Patriot League Tournament meet being held on February 15-17 at Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y.
