Lewisburg, Pa. --- Bucknell senior Molly Lowe (Hamilton Square, N.J./Steinert) has received the Subway Athlete of the Month Award for the month of January in Swimming & Diving.
The award was announced at the monthly Bucknell Women's Sports Luncheon, held Monday, January 22. Sponsored by Lewisburg Subway, the luncheon recognizes one outstanding student-athlete from each Bucknell women's sport in season at that time. Other winners for the month of January, as selected by the respective coaches, included freshman Jamie Lilien in Indoor Track & Field and junior Maribel Castillo in Basketball.
Lowe has really picked up the slack for the swimming team since the team's Florida training trip in between school semester's. In the team's first Patriot League meet against Lafayette, Lowe won her only scoring event in the 200-meter butterfly. She also would have won the 100-meter fly at the meet but swam the event as an exhibition. Lowe followed this strong performance by traveling to conference foe, Colgate, and winning the 100-meter butterfly in a fabulous time of 1:00.40.
The swimming & diving team is currently 5-3 on the season, 2-0 in 2001, and will be competing this weekend when it hosts Lehigh University on Saturday, January 27, at 12:00 noon.
