Boca Raton, Fla. --- The Bucknell men's and women's swimming & diving teams competed in the Florida Atlantic Invitational on Saturday in Boca Raton and placed fourth and fifth, respectively, among some very good competition.
The men's team was led by senior tri-captain John Ferriter (Yorktown, Va./Hampton Roads Academy) and sophomore Stelios Saffos (Cherry Hill, N.J./Camden Catholic) who compiled 25 and 21 points, respectively, towards Bucknell's team score. Ferriter finished seventh in the 100-free (49.34) and eighth in the 50-free (22.32), while Saffos placed seventh in the 200-breast (2:15.65) and ninth in the 100-breast (1:01.60). Divers Adam Fackler (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) and Ethan Lew (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) earned 28 and 26 points, respectively, with their performances on the 1- and 3-meter boards.
The women had six swimmers record at least 20 points for the Bison in the meet, led by freshman Daniela Faas (Ludwigshafen, Germany/Worcester Academy-Mass.) who tallied 31 points. Faas finished fourth in the 1,000-free (10:55.59), sixth in the 200-back (2:16.03) and 14th in the 400-IM (4:50.54). Tri-captain Molly Lowe (Hamilton Square, N.J./Steinert) had 25 points highlighted by an eighth-place finish in the 100-fly (1:02.67). Darby Golino (Milford, Conn./Our Lady of Academy) and Krisztina Poda (Bekescsaba, Hungary/Rozsa Ferene) each posted 22 points, as Golino finished eighth in both the 100- (1:03.62) and 200-back (2:17.65) and Poda placed ninth in the 500-free. Junior Barbara Morgan (Toms River, N.J./Toms River) finished seventh in the 100-breast (1:12.90) and had 21 points overall, while classmate Abby Weaver (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) was fifth in the 100-free (56.34) and had 20 points overall. Freshman diver Sarah Petcavage (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) earned 28 points for the Bison with her performances on the 1- and 3-meter boards.
The men's and women's swimming and diving teams will return to the winter weather of the north to take on Lafayette on Saturday, January 13, in Easton, Pennsylvania. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
