Bucknell Men's Swimming Improves to 6-3 With Win at Lafayette

Easton, Pa. --- The Bucknell men's and women's swimming & diving teams were both victorious over the weekend, defeating Patriot League foe Lafayette in Easton, Pennsylvania. The men improved to 6-3 overall this season with a 179-112 victory, while the women won 175-117 to improve their dual meet mark to 5-4.
On the men's side Bucknell captured 11 of the 16 events and had four swimmers win double-gold. Freshman Peter Garvin (Silver Spring, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) touched the wall first in both the 100- (47.83) and 200-free (1:46.30), while classmate Jack Sheehan (Wenonah, N.J./Gateway Regional) won the 100- (56.84) and 200-back (1:59.60). Sophomore Stelios Saffos (Cherry Hill, N.J./Camden Catholic) was a winner in the 100- (1:02.32) and 200-breast (2:17.60), and classmate Gonzalo Diaz (Miami, Fla./Ransom Everglades) claimed both the 500- (4:56.18) and 1,000-free (10:05.86). In addition, Sheehan was also a member of Bucknell's winning 200-medley relay (1:34.66).
The women also posted victories in 11 events, and had three swimmers take home a pair of first-place finishes. Freshman Daniela Faas (Ludwigshafen, Germany/Worcester Academy-Mass.) took home gold in both the 500- (5:18.76) and 1,000-free (10:53.12). Sophomore Darby Golino (Milford, Conn./Our Lady of Academy) captured the 100- (1:02.66) and 200-back (2:10.74), and junior Abby Weaver (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) won the 100- (54.91) and 200-free (1:59.62).
The men's and women's swimming and diving teams will be back in the pool this Saturday when they compete at Colgate University against the Red Raiders. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
