LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell sophomore guard Molly Creamer (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) and freshman guard Desire Almind (Blairstown, N.J./North Warren Regional) are both among the nation's leaders in average points per game. The 2000-01 NCAA Women's Basketball statistics leaders were updated on Tuesday, January 16.
Creamer, who leads the team and the Patriot League in scoring at 19.7 ppg, is ranked 25th in the nation with her scoring average. The sophomore has tallied 276 points through 14 games played this season and is the sixth-highest scoring sophomore in the country. Creamer was named the Patriot League Player of the Week for the week ending December 10 after averaging 26.5 points per game in a 2-0 week for the Bison. She has also been named to the all-tournament teams at the Cornell Classic (Dec. 1-2) and the PNC Wildcat Classic at Villanova (Dec. 29-30). In the consolation game of the PNC Wildcat Classic, Creamer scored 22 points in the second half on her way to a career-high 33 points in the game.
Almind, the team and Patriot League's second-leading scorer with 18.2 ppg, holds the 45th-highest scoring average in the nation. The rookie is the third-highest scoring freshman in the country and has been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week five times in eight weeks. Just 14 games into her career, Almind has had five 20+-point games, including a career-high 26 points in Bucknell's 79-66 victory over Harvard on Dec. 9. She earned her most recent Rookie of the Week honor for the week ending January 14 after averaging 20.0 points per game to lead Bucknell to a 2-0 record on the road to open Patriot League play. Her 20.0 ppg in conference action is tops in the league.
The Bison are 11-3, their best start in school history, and look to improve on their current four game win streak when they host three-time defending Patriot League champion Holy Cross on Wednesday, January 17, at 5:15 p.m.
