Bucknell Women's Basketball Freshman Garners Fifth Rookie of the Week Honor

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell freshman guard Desire Almind (Blairstown, N.J./North Warren Regional) has picked up her fifth Patriot League Rookie of the Week honor in seven times being nominated this season. The award was given for the games from January 8 through January 14.
Almind averaged 20.0 ppg this past week, helping the Bison go 2-0 on the road to open Patriot League play. She scored 17 points in the Orange and Blue victory at Navy (1/10/01), shooting 8-of-12 from the floor. Almind turned it on in the second half of the Lafayette game (1/13/01), going 8-of-10 from the floor in scoring 17 of her game-high 23 points. She went 10-of-15 from the floor in the game. Almind averaged 6.5 rebounds per game for the week and grabbed 3.0 steals per game over the two games, including a career-high four at Lafayette. The freshman shot 66.7% from the floor for the week and leads the Patriot League in conference play with 20.0 points per game average.
On the season, Almind in second on the team in scoring with 18.2 ppg. She has only been held to single-digits once through 14 games, and has reached the 20-point mark on five different occasions.
The Bison are 11-3, their best start in school history, and look to improve on their current four game win streak when they host three-time defending Patriot League champion Holy Cross on Wednesday, January 17, at 5:15 p.m.
