LEWISBURG, PA - Bucknell University junior tailback Jabu Powell (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) was selected as the Patriot League's Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, September 17, 2000.
Powell had a record setting performance in the Orange and Blue's 38-15 victory over Cornell, setting new Patriot League and Bucknell single-game rushing yardage marks by rushing for 282 yards on 30 carries. He surpassed Chris Peer's mark of 236 set against Holy Cross in 1997, and set a new conference record by topping former Lehigh standout Rabih Abdullah's 266-yard effort against Cornell in 1994.
Powell averaged 9.4 yards per attempt, had nine runs of 10 or more yards, and scored on runs of 79, 3 and 19 yards. In addition, he caught a pass for 19 yards to finish the day with 301 all-purpose yards. That total ranks as the sixth-best all-purpose yardage game in Patriot League history. Powell is currently ranked 13th in Division I-AA in rushing with a 145.0 yards per game average, and has 1,434 career yards on 231 carries (6.2 yd avg.).
Bucknell continues its three-game homestand when it hosts Columbia on Saturday at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
