Utchel Scores Game-winner In Double OT

Lewisburg Pa. --- The Bucknell women's soccer team was involved in yet another overtime contest this evening at St. Francis (PA). The Bison pulled out the victory off a clutch goal in the second overtime from sophomore Tara Utchel (Heidelberg, Pa./Sewickley). Only nine games into the season, this is already the fifth overtime contest for the Orange and Blue.
St. Francis took an early lead in the first half when senior Lisa Sapsara (Allison Park, Pa./Shaler) deflected a pass from freshman Tia Hernandez (Huntington, Pa./Norwin) into the back of the Bison net. This goal would turn out to be the one and only for the Red Flash.
At the 76:15 mark in the second half, freshman Savannah Rennels (Rector, Pa./Latrobe Area) scored her fourth goal of the season off a corner kick, locking the contest up at 1-1. Assisting on the Herd's first goal was Utchel, her third of the season.
In the second overtime of play, Bucknell's Utchel beat her defender and blasted a 10-yard shot directly in front of the St. Francis net that found the back of the goal for the game-winner. After this evening's contest Utchel improves to a season total four goals and three assists for 11 points, second best on the Bison soccer squad.
Collecting her sixth win of the season in goal was sophomore keeper Laurie Purse (Traverse City, Mich./Western Reserve Academy), saving five Red Flash shots. Red Flash goalkeeper Allison Tidball (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) made 10 saves in the losing effort.
The women's soccer team is now 6-3 on the season and remains 2-1 in conference play. The Orange and Blue will play again this Sunday, October 1 at 4:00 p.m. against Towson. The contest will be the first of a three game homestand that includes Pennsylvania on October 4 and Patriot League foe Holy Cross on October 7.
