Hunsicker Scores Game-winner Against Siena

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. -- The Bucknell field hockey team improved to 1-1 on the season, picking up a 3-0 victory over Siena College in non-conference action on Saturday, September 2.
Junior midfielder Anne Hunsicker (Bethlehem, Pa./Moravian Academy) scored once and added an assist as the Bison defeated Siena for the fifth time in five meetings since the series began in 1994.
Hunsicker got things started with an unassisted goal with 16:01 remaining in the first half to stake the Orange and Blue to a 1-0 halftime lead.
Senior forward, captain Maura Higgs (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan), gave the Bison a 2-0 cushion just three minutes into the second frame, scoring on a pass from Hunsicker on a penalty corner. Junior midfielder Erin Plasteras (West Long Branch, N.J./Shore Regional) finished the scoring for the game, connecting on a pass from sophomore forward Amy Marvel (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock) with 9:20 remaining to give Bucknell the 3-0 advantage.
Bucknell sophomore goalie Sonja Wettergreen (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) recorded her first shutout of the season, and third of her career, turning away five Siena shots.
The Bison outshot the Saints, 14-5, and held a 13-2 advantage in penalty corners.
Bucknell (1-1) completes its three-game season-opening road trip with a game at Towson on Tuesday, September 5 at 5:00 p.m. Siena is 0-1.
