LEWISBURG, Pa. ? Bucknell junior forward Melissa Maher (Marcy, N.Y./Whitesboro) has been named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week for field hockey for the week of September 18-25.
Maher was vital in Bucknell's two victories this past week against LaSalle and Patriot League rival Lafayette. In an overtime victory against LaSalle, she scored two goals, including the game-winner. Maher turned around and notched the game-winning tally in a 2-1 Bucknell victory over Lafayette in Easton, Pa. The Bison victory marked only the fifth time in 28 meetings the BU has defeated the Leopards.
For the season, Maher leads the team in scoring with eight points on four goals. She also leads the team in Patriot League play with two points (one goal).
Bucknell is 4-4 on the year and 1-1 in the Patriot League. The Bison travel to Ursinus on Wednesday, September 27 for a 4:30 p.m. game with the Patriot League foe.
