Field Hockey Drops Home Opener To Columbia 3-1

COLLEGE FIELD HOCKEY- Columbia 3, Bucknell 1
LEWISBURG, PA-- The Bucknell field hockey team lost 3-1 to Columbia University at home on Saturday, September 9.
Sophomore forward Melissa Macomber, senior midfielder Florencia Battilana, and freshman forward Shannon Torpey each scored one goal in the first half to secure Columbia's victory over Bucknell, 3-1.
Senior forward Maura Higgs (New Canaan, Conn./ New Canaan) responded to Columbia's lead with Bucknell's single goal late in the first half. At the half, Columbia led Bucknell in shots (11-1) and penalty corners (5-0).
In response to her team's loss, Bucknell head coach Heather Lewis said, "I thought Columbia was excellent and very well coached. We played hard, and we got beat by a better team."
The Bison (1-3) will next compete against Monmouth at home on September 10 for a 2 p.m. game.
