BUCKNELL FIELD HOCKEY TEAM PICKED TO FINISH FIFTH IN PRESEASON PATRIOT LEAGUE POLL
LEWISBURG, PA -- Bucknell received two first-place votes and tallied 43 points to finish fifth in a preseason poll of Patriot League coaches' and sports information directors' for the 2000 field hockey season. The Bison finished the 1999 season with their best record ever, going 14-7 overall and making it to the league championship game with a conference mark of 3-3.
Fairfield and Colgate tied for the lead in the poll. Both schools received 53 points in the voting, but the Stags garnered three first-place votes to just two first-place picks for the Red Raiders. However, both teams expect challenges in a tight race for the title as five teams received first-place votes and finished within 10 points of each other in the final tally.
Holy Cross received 49 points and four first-place votes to place third in the pre-season poll, followed by Lafayette (47 points, three first-place votes) and Bucknell. Lehigh (25 points) and Ursinus (24 points) complete the League poll.
