Women's Basketball Team Falls to Northeastern in Consolation Game of PNC Wildcat Classic

VILLANOVA, Pa. --The Bucknell women's basketball team dropped its second-straight contest, falling to Northeastern, 89-79, on Saturday, December 30, in the consolation game of the PNC Wildcat Classic, hosted by Villanova.
After leading for most of the first half, the Bison fell behind 43-39 at halftime after a 10-3 Northeastern run to close the stanza. Bucknell tooke its first lead of the game at the 14:47 mark to go up 10-8 after a 4-0 run. Junior Vicki Quimby (Wilson, Pa./West Lawn) score six straight points for the Bison during the stretch, while expanding the lead to 12-8 before the Huskies reallied to tie the game at 12-12. Bucknell extended its advantage to as many as seven at 27-20, before another Northeastern run cut the score to 32-31 in BU's favor. The Huskies took their first lead since the 15:00 mark with 1:54 left in the fram, going ahead 37-36. Quimby and sophomore Molly Creamer (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) both had 11 point in the half for Bucknell.
Northeastern came out on fire in the second half, quickly building its lead to 16 at 56-40 with a 13-1 run. The Bison were held without a field goal for the first 4:21 of the frame. Bucknell continued to struggle offensively and trailed 67-49 with 10:23 to go. The Huskies built the lead to 71-55 behind 60% shooting from the field with 7:47 to go in the contest. A series of steals by Bucknell and 12 points from Creamer over a 2:00 span allowed the Bison to put together a 12-2 run and cut the Northeastern lead to six at 73-67 with 4:53 to go. That was as close as the Orange and Blue would get as they were forced to foul in the final minutes to fall by the score of 89-79.
Creamer finished the game with a career and game-high 33 points, 22 of those coming in the second half. Also in double-figures for the Bison were Quimby with 16 and freshman Desire Almind (Blairstown, N.J./North Warren Regional) with 14. Junior Kate Rounsley (Lock Haven, Pa./Lock Haven) added six points, while juniors Monique LeBlanc (Cumberland, R.I./Bishop Feehan) and Rebekah May (Hummelstown, Pa./Hershey) had four points each and sophomore Kate Franks (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola) added two points to round out the Bucknell scoring column. Quimby led all players rebounding, pulling down 13 boards for her fourth double-double of the season and 23rd of her career. Creamer equalled her career-high for steals with five and was one shy of a career-best in assists with eight. She also hit a career-high five three-pointers in the game.
The Bison fall to 7-3 overall on the season and will return to Davis Gymnasium for a game against Cleveland State on Wednesday, January 3, at 5:15 p.m.
