Lewisburg, Pa. --- Bucknell junior Abby Weaver (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) has received the Subway Athlete of the Month Award for the month of October in Swimming & Diving.
The award was announced at the monthly Bucknell Women's Sports Luncheon, held Monday, November 6. Sponsored by Lewisburg Subway, the luncheon recognizes one outstanding student-athlete from each Bucknell women's sport in season at that time. Other winners for the month of September, as selected by the respective coaches, included sophomore Karla Killian in soccer, junior Shannon Walker in volleyball, junior Hilary Mainka in golf, junior Becki Marshall in cross country, and senior Brett Russo in field hockey.
Weaver, a sprint distance freestyler for the Bison, has had a very successful season already at this early stage. Against Bloomsburg, she won both the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle events. She followed this performance as being one of the top performers for the Orange and Blue against a very tough Army team. In the last event of the month at Drexel, Weaver once again swept two events winning the 100-yard freestyle and the 200-yard IM.
The women's swimming and diving team will host a meet this coming weekend, Saturday, November 11 with Towson. The diving events will begin at 11:00 a.m. and the swimming events will follow immediately.
