HAMILTON, N.Y. - This afternoon the Bucknell women's soccer team saw its season come to an end as the second-seeded Holy Crosse team defeated the Bison 1-0 in first round action at the Patriot League Championship Tournament in Hamilton, N.Y.
In the first half the Crusaders dominated the Bison, out shooting the Orange and Blue 9-2. Holy Cross scored the only goal of the contest when Second Team All-Patriot League selection Colleen Cushing headed Erin Patterson's corner kick into the opposite side of the goal for the eventual game-winner. The Bison responded with two late first half surges but were unable to get on the scoreboard.
The second stanza began much the same way the first ended, only this time Bucknell was taking the shots. Despite the Bison attack, Holy Cross narrowly missed a second tally at the 11:39 mark when Maria Lauring took a 30-yard strike that deflected off the crossbar and Sarah Comeaux headed the rebound towards the net only to be intercepted by Bucknell goalkeeper, sophomore Laurie Purse (Traverse City, Mich./Western Reserve Academy).
In the defeat, Bucknell was out shot by the Crusaders 28-5 and was never granted a corner kick the entire contest. The Orange and Blue conclude the season with an 8-9-1 overall and 3-3-1 conference record.
