Bucknell Tabbed To Repeat as Patriot League Indoor Track & Field Champion

LEWISBURG, PA --- The Bucknell University women's track & field team received 10 first-place votes and a total of 70 points to finish at the top of the Patriot League's preseason track & field poll. The Bison outdistanced runner-up Navy by eight points, and were tabbed to win their third consecutive league title in the vote taken by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
The Bucknell men received two first-place and votes and finished in second-place overall behind preseason favorite Army (70 pts) with 58 points.
Eight All-Patriot League performers return to lead the women's team for the Orange and Blue. The Bison return the winning 4x800-meter relay team of senior Meg Ghiggeri (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional), juniors Kelly McConnell (Danville, Pa./Danville), LaTonya McSwain (Cleveland, Ohio/Hawken) and Stephanie Bango (Smethport, Pa./Smethport). McSwain was also on the winning 4x400 team and finished second in the 500-meter dash. Bango is the returning champion in the 800-meter run and was part of the winning distance medley relay squad. Junior Christie Wolfgang (Rossiter, Pa./Punxsutawney) and senior Laura Ryan (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) also return on the 4x400 relay team, while juniors Kristin Kyzmir (Lisle, N.Y./Whitney Point) and Becki Marshall (Montgomery, N.Y./Pine Bush Central) return to the DMR foursome.
The men's team will be paced by senior James Hollins (Feeding Hills, Mass./Northfield-Mt. Hermon), who captured both the long and triple jump titles during the outdoor season, and 12 athletes that are already among Bucknell's all-time Top-10 lists in selective events for the Orange and Blue.
The Bucknell teams will begin their 2000-01 season this Saturday, December 2, when they host the 17th Annual Bucknell Invitational in Gerhard Fieldhouse.
