LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell head basketball coach Kathy Fedorjaka announced today that junior guard/forward Monique LeBlanc (Cumberland, R.I./Bishop Feehan) has been elected captain for the 2000-01 season.
"Monique was chosen as our team captain for the 2000-2001 season because of her leadership qualities, maturity, and innate team focus," commented Fedorjaka. "She has been a steady performer in the program for both of her first two seasons, but beyond that she is one of the hardest workers I have coached in my ten years, along with being one of the best communicators with both the team and coaching staff. Monique understands the values of the program and is well respected by all her teammates."
LeBlanc is one of four returning starters for the young Bison squad. In her first two years at Bucknell, she has played in 57 games, starting 21 of them. A defensive nemesis to opponents, LeBlanc creates problems for opposing players, in addition to creating several second-chance scoring opportunities for her teammates on the other end of the court. During her sophomore campaign, LeBlanc recorded 113 rebounds and over half of those caroms came off the offensive glass.
Supporters of the Bucknell program will get the opportunity to preview the 2000-01 Bison squad on Saturday, November 4, when they host The Legacy in an exhibition game in Davis Gym at 2:00 p.m. The Orange and Blue open the regular season at home on Saturday, November 18, at 5:15 p.m. against future Patriot League rival American.
