Women's Cross Country Follows the Men's Lead And Sweeps The Competition

LEWISBURG, PA --- The Bucknell University men's and
women's cross country teams got off on the right foot this morning
with dual meet victories in their first action of the 2000 season.
The men are 3-0 after defeating Rutgers, Manhattan and Syracuse,
while the women are 2-0 with wins over Manhattan and Syracuse.
Bison sophomore Greg Costello (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon)
crossed the line first in the men's race with a time of 25:23.01
to lead a Bucknell pack that included five of the Top-10 runners
overall, and 10 of the Top-20 in the race. Senior Kevin Weatherill
(Swedesboro, N.J./The Peddie School) finished second, close behind
Costello with a time of 25:23.42, followed by Evan Honeyfield
(Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro) and Brian Johnston (Kane, Pa./Kane
Area) who were fourth and fifth, respectively.
Bucknell's Becki Marshall (Montgomery, N.Y./Pine Bush Central)
was the individual champion on the women's side with a time of
18:21.90 as the Bison placed six runners among the top-10 and
11 in the Top-20 overall. Theresa Dennis (Wilkes Barre, Pa./Hanover
Area) finished third with a time of 18:36.65, followed by Andrea
Beisser (Ames, Iowa/Ames) in fourth at 18:36.91. Kelly McConnell
(Danville, Pa./Danville), Chris Crowe (State College, Pa/State
College) and Mandy Youmell (Weedsport, N.Y./Weedsport) finished
sixth, seventh and tenth, respectively.
