LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Patriot League announced its All-Decade
Men's Soccer Team today and one former Bucknell University men's
soccer player was among the 10 players honored as members of the
squad.
The team, comprised of three forwards, one midfielder, five defenders
and one goalkeeper, includes student-athletes from the inception
of the league in 1990 up and through the 1999 season. A committee
consisting of head coaches, institutional sports information liaisons
and administrative liaisons conducted team selection for each
of the 20 Patriot League sports.
Mark Wrigley, a 1994 graduate of Bucknell, was the only goalkeeper
honored on the All-Decade Men's Soccer Team. As a freshman in
1990, Wrigley played in 15 games for the Bison, recording 78 saves
while only allowing nine goals and, in the process, setting a
Patriot League record (that still stands) with an .897 save percentage.
During his sophomore season, Wrigley played in and started all
17 games for Bucknell, posting four shutouts during the 1991 campaign.
In 1992, the junior once again got his save percentage above
.800, finishing the season with a .809 save percentage on 89 saves
and 21 goals against.
As a senior and second-year captain, Wrigley posted impressive
numbers in his final season with the Orange and Blue. After allowing
only 19 goals in 1,875 minutes of play, Wrigley's 0.91 goals against
average was the third-best in the Mid-Atlantic Region. In addition,
he tied a school record with ten shutouts on the year and earned
Patriot League Player of the Year honors at the conclusion of
the 1993 campaign.
