Lewisburg, Pa. --- Bucknell sophomore Laurie Purse (Marysville, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy) has received the Subway Athlete of the Month Award for the month of September in Soccer.
The award was announced at the monthly Bucknell Women's Sports Luncheon, held Monday, October 2. Sponsored by Lewisburg Subway, the luncheon recognizes one outstanding student-athlete from each Bucknell women's sport in season at that time. Other winners for the month of September, as selected by the respective coaches, included junior Becki Marshall in cross country, senior Brooke Bader in volleyball, sophomore Molly Campbell in golf, and junior Melissa Maher in field hockey.
Purse is the team's goalkeeper and has had a very solid season. She was named Patriot League Defensive Player-of-the-Week for the week ending 9/18/00. During that week she had two Patriot League victories, a double overtime shutout versus Lehigh and a 3-2 victory over Navy. Through ten games played she has been the Bison goalkeeper for all 977:18 minutes while only allowing the ball by her 19 times. Purse has already accumulated three shutouts this season which eclipses her previous season best of one shutout.
The women's soccer team has a 6-4 overall record and a 2-1 conference record. The Bison will have their next contest this Wednesday, October 4, against Pennsylvania on the Bucknell East Field at 7:00 p.m.
