Lookingland II, Michael

Michael Lookingland II
- Induction:
- 2018
- Class:
- 2005
Michael Lookingland is one of the top defenders ever to play for the Bucknell men’s soccer team. A two-time Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year honoree, Lookingland started and played every minute in all 76 games over his four-year career. The two-year team captain was a three-time All-Patriot League selection, and he helped the 2003 squad to a regular-season championship with a 5-0-2 record.
A graduate of Baltimore's Loyola Blakefield High School, Lookingland returned to his home state to help the Bison pull off one of the biggest upsets in school history, a 1-0 win over No. 2 Maryland in 2003.Â
During his senior year in 2004, Bucknell finished 4-2-1 in Patriot League play and matched up with Lehigh in the Patriot League Tournament. Despite playing with 10 men for the final 46 minutes, the team held Lehigh scoreless through regulation and overtime, but then suffered the cruel fate of falling short in the eighth round of a penalty-kick shootout. Following that season, Lookingland was named a Third Team All-American by College Soccer News.Â
Â
A member of the Patriot League 25th Anniversary Team, Lookingland became the first Bison ever to be selected in the Major League Soccer Draft when he was the 13th overall pick by Real Salt Lake in the 2005 MLS Supplemental Draft. He played briefly in the MLS and then went on to a stellar indoor soccer career, winning four MISL championships with the Baltimore Blast. He was the 2012 MISL Defender of the Year and a First Team All-MISL selection. After retiring as a player, Lookingland remained involved in the sport of soccer as a club coach in Maryland.Â
