Burt Talmage was one of the "Touchdown Twins" who helped lead Bucknell's football team to an undefeated (9-0) season in 1951. He teamed with fellow Hall-of-Famer Brad Myers to help break an Eastern collegiate total offense record set by an Army team led by Heisman Trophy winners Doc Blanchard and Glenn Davis. A four-sport athlete at Morristown (N.J.) High School, the 5-9, 185-pound Talmage ran for 1,025 yards and scored 14 touchdowns at Bucknell in 1951. With Myers gaining 1,069 and both men breaking the former Eastern individual season record, Bucknell averaged 463.3 yards per game in total offense, breaking the mark of 462.7 by the 1945 Army team. Talmage, who gained 1,878 yards and averaged 6.9 yards per carry in his career, was named to the Associated Press All-Pennsylvania and All-East first teams, along with the United Press and INS All-East first team in 1951. In addition to helping Bucknell set a team total offense record, Talmage and Myers put together the best two-man rushing total of any team in Eastern collegiate history at the time, and Talmage had a 208-yard rushing game against Muhlenberg as a senior. In 1952, Talmage was invited to compete in the Blue-Grey senior all-star game but was prevented from doing so because of an injury. Â
