Bucknell volleyball added Niece Curry to its coaching staff as an assistant on March 15, 2013. Curry, a former player at the University of South Carolina who brings a wealth of coaching experience from the high school and club levels, joins first-year head coach Anna Allison on the bench for the start of the 2013 campaign.
"We are very excited to have Niece join our staff," said Allison at Curry's hiring. "Niece is a great student of the game and a fierce competitor. I cannot wait to have her on the court working with our front line. She had a great playing career at USC and our players will benefit tremendously from her knowledge of the game."
Curry's most recent experience came with Harrison High School in Farmington, Mich., and Legacy Volleyball Club where she served as head coach last year. Prior to that, the native of Kalamazoo, Mich., also held the head coaching position at Club Extreme ASICS Volleyball Club, working with both the U17N and U14N squads. Curry led the U14 group to a 52-17 record and finished sixth in the state in 2011.
During her playing days, Curry was a three-year letterwinner at South Carolina. A middle blocker, she was named First Team All-SEC as both a junior and senior. Her junior campaign also saw her finish second in the conference in hitting percentage (.404) and blocks (114). That same year she earned a nod to the All-South Eastern Region Team and competed with the USA Olympic Summer Team. As a sophomore Curry was also among the team's leaders in blocks and kills.
Off the court, Curry was a member of the Dean's List all four years while earning her degree in psychology and a minor in social work. She was also a regular member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll before graduating in 2004. She then completed her MBA in Human Resources Management from the University of Phoenix in 2009.
