Darrin Shirk joined the Bucknell strength and conditioning coaching staff in August 2022.Â
Shirk came to Bucknell from UTEP, where he served as a graduate assistant strength coach while working toward a master's degree in leadership studies. Shirk designed and implemented training programs for the Miners' men's golf and cheerleading teams, an he also assisted with the football, softball, and women's soccer programs.
Shirk previously completed sports performance internships at Virginia (2021) and Old Dominion (2020). He worked with the UVa football team and assisted with football, women's lacrosse, field hockey, women's basketball, and swimming at Old Dominion. He became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) in November 2019.Â
A native of Fredericksburg, Pa., Shirk did his undergraduate studies at Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in health and human performance: exercise science in 2018. Shirk was also an all-conference member of the Heidelberg baseball team, and in 2019 he participated with the Black Sox Professional Baseball Road Warrior Tour. That same year he won the International Powerlifting Association Pennsylvania State Championship. Â
