Mirra Manolov Breaks Tie in Bison's 4-3 Win Over Saint Joseph's

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — With the score tied 3-3 and one singles match to go, Bucknell captain Mirra Manolov defeated Amari O'Brien on court five to earn the Bison its first win of the spring, 4-3 over Saint Joseph's on Friday morning. The Bison are now 2-0 overall on the season.
Bucknell opened the morning by securing the doubles point. Manolov and Jaycie Mair got the first win of the day as they defeated Elena Fleming and Claudia Perez-Garcia 6-1 on court two. Cameron King and Natalie Devraj then secured the doubles point with a win on court three over Elena Fleming and Claudia Perez Garcia 7-5. Rounding out doubles play, the Hawks found its lone doubles win on court one as Wiktoria Czerny and Victoria Tracey defeated Riley Jennings and Abby Platt 7(7) - 6(5).
Saint Joseph's tied the match 1-1 as Elena Fleming defeated Mair in the court four singles match in two straight sets (6-2, 6-2). The Bison then took a 2-1 lead on the conclusion of the next match where Tori Allen defeated Tracey on court three in two sets (6-4, 6-4). The Hawks came back with a court one win as Czerny defeated Platt in three sets (3-6, 6-3, 10-2) and then took a 3-2 lead with a court two win as Valeria Casusol defeated Riley Jennings in three sets (3-6, 6-4, 13-11). Mariana Shulman tied the match back up at 3-3 as she won on court six in two sets (7-5, 6-1). With it all coming down to the court five singles matchup between Manolov and O'Brien, the captain brought home the win for the Bison with a 6-4, 7-5 victory.
The Bison will host their first home match of the spring on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 1 p.m. against Mount St. Mary's.
