Three-time NCAA qualifier John Van Brill was added to the Bucknell wrestling staff as a volunteer assistant coach in September 2019.
Van Brill joined the Bison following a successful collegiate wrestling career at Rutgers University, where he was a three-time Big Ten Championships and three-time Ken Kraft Midlands Championships placewinner. Van Brill, who wrestled primarily at 157 pounds, compiled a career record of 75-48 (30-20 Big Ten).Â
Van Brill finished as high as seventh at the Big Ten Championships and reached the blood round at the 2018 NCAA Championships. He captured a bronze medal at the 2017 Midlands Championships, winning seven bouts over the course of the prestigious tournament.
Van Brill obtained his bachelor's degree and master's degree in human resource management from Rutgers in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
The Mullica Hill, N.J. native was a three-time captain at Clearview Regional High School, where he posted a 139-11 record with 98 pins. He qualified for the state tournament all four years, twice placing in the top five. He also helped the Pioneers win their first state title in program history. Individually, he won three region and four district crowns.
