Shakeema Welsch enters her first season as an Assistant Coach for the Bucknell Track and Field program in 2018-19. Â
Welsch works closely with the Bison jumpers in the field events, as she brings a wealth of experience in both the triple jump and the long jump. Welsch starred for both nearby Penn State University and the U.S. National Team over her decorated career as an athlete. Â
Welsch earned two silver medals at the U.S. Olympic Trials and was also a two-time USA Champion in the triple jump. She also took part in the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, Germany. Â
Originally from Philadelphia, Welsch graduated from Penn State with a degree in marketing and a minor in information systems. She was a seven-time All-American in both the triple and the long jump, and is second on the school's all-time list in the outdoor triple jump and is tied for second in the indoor long jump. Welsch is also tied for fifth in the indoor triple jump and tied for third in the outdoor long jump.Â
Welsch began her coaching career as a volunteer assistant at the University of Alabama before moving to the University of Georgia to work as a student-athlete learning specialist. Â
Welsch has also founded her own company called Perform Right with Shak. The company works closely with athletes, parents, and coaches to design and coach techniques catered to the specific goals and needs of athletes. Â
In Welsch's most recent coaching stop, she was an assistant coach at Windward School in Los Angeles, producing two conference champions in the process. Â
