Born June 10, 2002 in Kitchener, Ontario ... parents are Jim Newton and Sara Butcher ... has five siblings, including older brother Cole who plays college basketball at Ottawa University ... younger siblings are Devyn, Hunter, Elle and Jack ... came to Bucknell from Toronto Basketball Academy, where he did a postgraduate year in 2020-21 ... with Canadian basketball on pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, TBA team traveled to Florida to compete against other top programs and compiled a stellar 25-5 record ... prior to joining Toronto Basketball Academy, played for Southwest Academy and led his grade 12 team in scoring, assists, rebounds and blocked shots ... previously spent three seasons with Centre Wellington District High School, where he earned district MVP honors and helped lead his team to District 10 and Central Western Ontario Secondary Schools Association (CWOSSA) AAA championships in 2018.
