Justin Sussman ’03 was one of the top goalies ever to play for the Bison men’s lacrosse squad. He backstopped Bucknell to four straight Patriot League championships and was a two-time Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, a three-time All-Patriot League pick and an Honorable Mention All-American in 2003. An Academic All-District selection and the 2003 Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Sussman graduated with a stellar 30-17 career record, with the 30 wins a school record at the time. He also posted a 21-3 Patriot League mark and was in goal when the Bison faced Notre Dame in their very first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2001. Sussman graduated with a stellar .628 career save percentage, the fourth-best in program history, and he is the only Bison goalie with a save percentage over .600 who played after 1979. Sussman’s career-best .664 save percentage in 2003 was just .003 off the national lead, and it is Bucknell’s best mark in the last 35 years. His 7.81 career goals-against average was a school record at the time and now ranks second, and his 572 total saves are third-most in program history. Sussman was twice selected in the Major League Lacrosse Supplemental Draft, in the fourth round by Baltimore in 2004 and in the 11th round by Philadelphia in 2006.
