Drew Chance joined the Bucknell football staff as a quarterbacks coach in January 2026.Â
Most recently, Chance spent the 2025 season as the Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator at Bethel University at the NAIA level. Â
Prior to Bethel, Chance spent two seasons as the Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks coach at his alma mater Illinois College. Chance made an immediate impact in his short stint with the Blue Boys, leading the team to a 9-1 record with an NCAA Division III playoff appearance after a 5-5 season the year prior. In 2024, the Blue Boys posted an 8-2 record with one of the best offenses in the nation, and Chance was named the 2024 FootballScoop NCAA Division III Coordinator of the Year along with back-to-back Hansen Region 5 Offensive Coordinator of the Year honors in 2023 and 2024.
Illinois would go on to have two historic seasons under Chance. The Blue Boys ranked first among Division III programs in total offense (554.6 ypg) and ranked first in passing offense (381.9 ypg) in 2023. The Blue Boys also ranked top-10 in scoring (45.7 ppg) and top-30 in redzone offense, turnover margin and first downs.Â
In 2024, the Blue Boys ranked first in total offense (589.4 ypg) and scoring (55.4 ppg). The Blue Boys ranked second in passing offense (376.4) and ranked in the top-20 in rushing offense (213.0 ypg), third down conversions (.496), fourth down conversions (.750) and first downs.Â
Chance led two two-time All-American players on offense in his two seasons in quarterback Destin Chance and wide receiver Collin Brunstein. In 2024, Destin Chance led the nation in total yards per game, total touchdowns, passing yards per game, and passing touchdowns. His 58 total touchdowns in the 2024 regular season set a new NCAA single-season record, while his 4,036 passing yards and 50 passing touchdowns became new Midwest Conference single-season records.Â
Brunstein was the AFCA Skill Player of the Year in both seasons, and he led the nation in receiving yards and touchdowns in both 2023 and 2024, setting NCAA single-season records with 2,200 yards and 31 touchdowns in 2023. His 77 career receiving touchdowns are currently the NCAA record at all levels.Â
In just two seasons, Chance coached two All-Americans, five All-Region honorees, and 13 All-Conference selections.
Chance began his coaching career at West Virginia State University, serving as the Pass Game Coordinator while coaching the quarterback and tight end position groups.
During his tenure, Chance mentored MEC All-Conference Quarterback and HBCU National Player of the Week, Donovan Riddick.
Chance was a prolific quarterback himself at Illinois College where he led the Midwest Conference in total offense during the 2017, 2018, and 2019 seasons. He ranks top-five in program history in passing attempts, completions, passing yards and passing touchdowns. At the high school level, Chance led Auburn High School (Ill.) to its first State Championship appearance in 2015.Â
He graduated from Illinois College in 2020 with a Bachelor’s in Sports Management and earned a Master’s Degree in Sports Studies from West Virginia State University in
2022.
