Dear Bucknell Volleyball Family and Friends,
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with loved ones. Our season came to an end about two weeks ago in the quarterfinals of the Patriot League tournament, and while we had hoped to play together a little longer, I am thankful for all of your support throughout another historic fall here in Lewisburg.
We have much to celebrate! After winning eight of our last nine matches in the regular season, we finished tied for second in the Patriot League! It is the highest regular season placement for Bucknell since 2003 and also meant that we earned the right to host a Patriot League Tournament match in Davis Gymnasium for the first time since 2000.
Junior Jordan Hardy was named Patriot League Libero of the Year and joined senior Cat Jamison on the All-Patriot League First Team. First-year Sidney Shaffer was named Rookie of the Year — the second year in a row that a Bucknell Bison has earned the accolade — and All-Patriot League Second Team. It is the highest number of players to earn All-Patriot League honors since 2003. Jamison and Hardy also were named to the Patriot League All-Academic Team, marking back-to-back honors for the program after senior Valentina Feigl earned recognition last year.
It has been a program-changing four years for our senior class of Jamison, Feigl, Sarah Ramirez, Libby Nieporte, and Allie Lopez. In their first year at Bucknell, they helped lead us to our first victory over American in 30 years. In the seasons since that auspicious beginning, they have been a part of teams that have rewritten the record books and have shaped the standards that we will continue to build upon in the years to come.
And the future for Bison Volleyball looks bright! Shaffer finished the Patriot League season ranked #7 in hitting percentage and #6 in blocks. She is joined by fellow first-year Riley Tucker, who ranked #9 in blocks. Hardy led the Patriot League in digs and digs per set, and sophomore Caleigh O’Connell finished #3 in assists per set despite having her season cut short due to injury. Sophomore Laura Caro took over setting duties full-time in our last six matches, including a 4-0 finish at home, and fellow sophomore Tijana Kostic, who was asked to fill a number of roles this season, led the team in kills in our last two matches. Sophomore Bri Frazilus, last season’s Patriot League Rookie of the Year, finished second on the team in total kills. First-year Cameron Lloyd was on the court for virtually every point during the Patriot League season and played an integral role in our success.
Thank you, as always, for your support and enthusiasm. While we will take some time during the holiday season to reflect upon the great moments of this fall, we also look forward to returning to the gym in January and returning to the process of getting better. We already can’t wait to get back in front of you in Davis Gymnasium next fall!
Happy Holidays!
