Dear Bucknell Volleyball Friends and Family, Â
Welcome to the new volleyball season! We are so glad to be wearing our gameday jerseys again (including a new blue jersey!), and we’re looking forward to being at home this weekend as we host Princeton, Cornell, William & Mary, and Niagara for a preseason tournament. We hope to see you in Davis Gym! (If you can’t make it to Lewisburg, all matches will be streamed on ESPN+.)
Earlier this month, our 11 returning student-athletes and five newcomers reported to campus a couple of weeks before classes to start our preseason training. We anticipated that this would be the deepest roster since I’ve been at Bucknell, and our student-athletes have proven that to be true with highly competitive moments throughout practice. The lineups are all a mix of experience and newness, and while our opening tournament at Liberty University showed that we haven’t quite found the winning combination yet, we took some steps forward and know what we want to work on this week to prepare for our upcoming matches.
Junior Jordan Hardy recently was named Patriot League Preseason Libero of the Year, and through three matches of the young season, she leads the team—and the Patriot League—in digs per set. Sophomore Bri Frazilus, an All-Patriot League Second Team selection last season, leads the team in kills, with senior Cat Jamison in second and first-year Sidney Shaffer in third. Shaffer and fellow first-year Riley Tucker are first and second on the team in blocks, and another first-year, Cameron Lloyd, leads the team in aces. Sophomores Caleigh O’Connell and Laura Caro continue to share setting duties and are tied for third on the team in digs.
After returning to the Patriot League tournament last fall, our intention is to not only make an appearance again this (and every) season but to win matches and championships once there. We still have some things to figure out, and our preseason schedule is tougher, but we’re excited and encouraged by our room for growth and our capacity for an even higher level of competitive play. We are looking forward to more opportunities to keep getting better.
Your support of our program has had a direct impact on our student-athletes' experiences so far this fall. Thanks to your generous contributions, we were able to provide new blue jerseys, more adidas gear for performance, comfort, and program representation, and extra snacks for fuel and recovery during the preseason. Those things don’t show up directly on the stat sheets but make a big difference for our program, and we are so grateful to you all for helping to make those things possible.
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to seeing you at our matches this fall (or on ESPN+ for those who are farther away)!
