Emma Gavin Named Patriot League Defender of the Week

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell sophomore Emma Gavin earned Patriot League Women's Soccer Defender of the Week honors on Monday after she helped the Bison back line keep a clean sheet in a scoreless draw with Holy Cross. Gavin is the sixth Bucknell player to earn a Patriot League citation in seven weeks this season.
Gavin and the Bison limited Holy Cross to just three shots on goal in Saturday's game at Emmitt Field, and the Bison have seen a defensive resurgence in recent weeks. After conceding 11 goals in a four-game stretch, Bucknell has allowed only one in the last three games against No. 23 Villanova, Lehigh, and Holy Cross, and the lone goal came on a penalty kick against Lehigh last week.
Gavin has been a stalwart at center back for the Bison. She has started all 11 games and played the full 90 in nine. Her 950 minutes are second-most among all Bucknell players.
The Bison are 4-5-2 overall and 1-0-1 in the Patriot League, and they have a busy two-game week upcoming. Bucknell travels to Lafayette on Wednesday night before hosting Loyola on Saturday afternoon.
