LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw with Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon at Emmitt Field. The Bison were tested in the late stages with two Holy Cross corner kicks but defended well to keep the match scoreless.

It was a relatively even match on paper as Holy Cross (4-4-2, 0-1-1 PL) out-shot Bucknell (4-5-2, 1-0-1 PL) 13-8. Both teams had three shots on target with each goalkeeper making three saves.
After two matches, the Bison sit in fourth place in the Patriot League with four points, behind Army, Boston U. and Lafayette who all have six points.

"We're glad to walk away with a point and a shutout in a tough, physical match," said head coach Kelly Cook. "Holy Cross created a lot of chances, but we defended very well today. Our attacking group wasn't as effective as they have been this season, but we'll continue to work on that moving forward."

Sarah McFarland recorded her fifth shutout of the season as the Bison moved up to four points in the Patriot League standings. McFarland was tested early in the match but was not threatened in goal over the remainder of the match.

The best opportunity of the match came early in just the second minute of action. The Crusaders put in a cross from the sideline that went all the way through to Alessia Cerulo. Cerulo played a pass to Jenelle Murphy just in front of the net, and Murphy's shot was stopped by McFarland at point-blank range.

Cerulo threatened again on the attack just minutes later with another shot on target, but it was a comfortable save by McFarland in the end. The Crusaders had five more shots in the half, but none were close to the target.

Bucknell had just two shots in the first half with one on target as the Crusaders held the majority of possession. The Bison got into the match more in the second half with more chances on the attack. The Bison had six shots in the final 45 minutes with two on target from Presley Sutter.

"We didn't make a ton of adjustments at the half," said Cook. "I think we adjusted well to their physical style of play and understanding how important it was to connect with our strikers and have our midfielders play off of them.

The Bison defended well down the stretch as Holy Cross looked for the game-winning goal. The Crusaders had two corners in the final two minutes, but the Bison defended well to stop both opportunities.

Caitlyn Scott had another fantastic game in the Bison midfield. Scott, the shortest player on the field, won several headers and stopped several attacking chances with her defending.

"Caitlyn had a big game today and has really stepped up the last few games," said Cook. "She plays with a ton of heart and passion. She understands her assignments and has really been a spark igniting the group with how she's been playing."

Bucknell returns to action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. for another Patriot League contest against Lafayette at Gummeson Grounds.
