Nowinski, Johnson Selected as Bison of the Week Honorees

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Junior Jackson Nowinski of the Bucknell football team and sophomore Joelle Johnson of the Bucknell women's golf team were named the Bison of the Week on Monday. Nowinski scored his first career touchdown, the game-winner against VMI, and Johnson won her first individual championship at the Bucknell Fall Invitational.

Nowinski, a junior wide receiver from Virginia served as a spark plug for Bucknell football in the fourth quarter of its game at VMII on Saturday.

With under seven minutes left in regulation and the Bison trailing 3-0, Chris Dietrich found Nowinski on a nice route off of a block for a 27-yard touchdown reception. The touchdown grab was the junior's second catch as a Bucknell football player with his first coming in the second quarter of this same game on a short pass for two yards.

The touchdown score gave the Bison its first points and lead of the game and served as a catalyst for the team in the final minutes. After the go-ahead score, the Bison defense fed off of the momentum and England Allen came up with two big plays including a pass breakup and an interception to give Bucknell the ball back with under four-and-a-half minutes left. The Bison offense then added in another touchdown and defensive stop to earn its first win of the year in victory formation.

After two rounds at even-par to start the tournament, Johnson improved in the third round to finish with a 68 (-2) and finish 2-under-par for the tournament to lead the Bison to a team championship. Columbia was one stroke behind the Bison as Johnson teed off on the par-4 18th hole. The sophomore parred the hole to hold off a late Columbia push toward the top of the leader board.

Johnson sank three birdies to go 3-under-par after 11 holes, but a double bogey on the 12th put her back to 1-under-par. She answered with a birdie on the par-3 13th hole, and parred out the remaining five holes to secure her championship. Johnson was a medalist at the Bucknell Invitational in 2025 but fell to teammate Katherine Vice after two playoff holes. This was Johnson's third career top-two finish.

Last Monday and Tuesday, Johnson also finished 2-over-par at the Nittany Lion Invitational. She fired a round of 70 (-2) in the second round.
