LEWISBURG, Pa. — Freshman cornerback Langston Blair has been named Patriot League Rookie of the Week after his impressive defensive performance in Bucknell's 14-3 comeback win over VMI on Saturday.
The D.C. native recorded two major pass breakups against VMI, including one in the endzone. The first breakup came in the second quarter on a 3rd and 8 play at the Bucknell eight yard-line when Ian Reynolds tried to connect with Cole Varner in the endzone. Blair's breakup forced VMI to settle for a 26-yard field goal, the lone points of the game for the Keydets.
Blair's number was then called in crunch time as VMI was looking to get their offense started with 2:19 left in the game and a 14-3 deficit. On a 3rd and 10 play at the VMI 27 yard-line, Reynolds attempted to find Trevion Slaughter for a first down, but Blair was able to get a hand in and break up the pass forcing VMI to go for it on fourth down and turnover the ball on downs, earning Bucknell a victory formation win.
The freshman also recorded one tackle and prevented a second touchdown reception for VMI with his solid coverage in the endzone.
The Bison defense limited the Keydets to under 300 yards of offense with no touchdowns. Blair aided in Bucknell holding VMI scoreless for three of four quarters and was directly responsible for limiting the first half offensive drive of VMI to just three points.
