Women's Tennis Sports Solid Start at Bucknell Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. — Bucknell women's tennis opened its Bucknell Invitational with four singles victories and 10 doubles victories on Saturday.
Isabella Massis and Jordan Lee made their collegiate debuts with Bucknell on day one of the tournament. Lee went 1-0 in singles and 2-1 in doubles on the day, while Massis went 2-0 in doubles and 0-1 in singles.
The Bison played Slippery Rock in doubles and took three of the five matches. Natalie Devraj and Summer Even-Esh won No. 2 doubles 6-4, Cameron King and Mariana Shulman took No. 3 doubles 6-2 and Jaycie Mair and Massis defeated Slippery Rock's No. 6 doubles team 6-1.
Against Saint Francis Bucknell went 3-2 in singles play and 4-0 in doubles play. While the Bison fell to SFU's first and second singles players, they took the final three singles matches handedly. Shulman won at the No. 3 spot 6-2, 6-4, Kate Purpura took the No. 4 match 6-3, 6-4 and Lee dominated the No. 6 match 6-0, 6-0. In doubles the Bison took all four matches with Riley Jennings and Summer Even-Esh winning 6-4 at the No. 1 spot, Mair and King taking the No. 2 match 6-1, Purpura and Lee winning the No. 3 match 6-0 and Tori Allen and Natalie Devraj finishing off the No. 4 match 6-0 to complete the complete doubles sweep.
Against IUP, the Bison went 3-2 in doubles. Jennings and King won the No.1 match 6-1, Devraj and Lee took the No. 3 match 6-1 and Purpura and Massis won the No. 6 match 6-4. Bucknell struggled in singles against IUP as Jennings was the lone Bison to earn a win. She took a 7-6(5), 6-2 victory at the No. 2 spot. Bucknell dropped the other four singles matches, two of which went to three sets.
The Bucknell Invitational will continue on Sunday, barring unplayable weather conditions.
