Bucknell Athletics Expands The Zone Partnership Department-Wide After Women's Basketball & SAAC Rollout

LEWISBURG, Pa. — Bucknell Athletics is expanding its partnership with The Zone, the mental performance platform built specifically for athletic programs, growing from a targeted launch with its women's basketball program and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) to a department-wide rollout across all Bison varsity programs. Every Bucknell athlete and coach will now have access to The Zone, making mental performance a permanent part of the department's approach to athlete care.
Bucknell first introduced The Zone to its women's basketball team and to the student-athletes serving on SAAC, the leaders closest to the day-to-day realities of being a college athlete. After those groups experienced the impact of consistent, athlete-first mental performance support, Bucknell elected to extend that same support to every program in the department, affirming mental performance as core infrastructure rather than a short-term initiative.
"Bucknell did this the right way," said Ivan Tchatchouwo, Founder & CEO of The Zone. "They started with their women's basketball team and their student-athlete leaders on SAAC — the people closest to what it actually feels like to be a college athlete — and let them shape what this looks like. Now every Bison athlete gets that same support. When the athletes themselves are the ones asking to expand it, you know it's real."
As a Division I program competing in the Patriot League, Bucknell joins a growing group of institutions making mental performance a permanent part of their performance model. The department-wide expansion gives every Bison athlete and coach access to The Zone's full offering, which pairs everyday mental performance tools with clinical support services.
Through The Zone, Bucknell student-athletes and coaches now have access to both mental performance and clinical support services — everyday tools and professional care working together. For athletes, that means consistent, athlete-first support through performance pressure, stress, emotional fatigue, and the everyday demands of school, sport, and life, plus clinical resources for the moments that call for more. Coaches and athletic staff have that same support available to them, along with team-level visibility and tools to proactively engage their athletes and reinforce healthy habits — without ever accessing individual athlete data. Privacy and trust have been central to the partnership from the start.
The well-being of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff is central to everything we do in Bison Athletics," said vice president for athletics and recreation Tim Pavlechko. "This partnership with The Zone provides our student-athletes with another readily accessible resource to support their mental and emotional health, while reinforcing our commitment to fostering an environment where seeking help is encouraged and supported. Investing in the well-being of our student-athletes is an investment in their success, on and off the playing fields."
— Tim Pavlechko, Vice President for Athletics & Recreation, Bucknell University
By expanding department-wide, Bucknell reinforces its commitment to the holistic development of its student-athletes and joins the programs defining what comprehensive athlete care looks like.
