LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Looking to build on the emotional high of back-to-back dramatic victories, Bucknell now faces the Patriot League's top two teams in the standings in a span of just over 48 hours. First up is second-place Colgate (8-3) on Saturday evening, and then frontrunning Navy (10-1) comes in on Monday. Saturday will be Alumni Day at Sojka Pavilion, with more than 30 former Bison expected to be in attendance and recognized at halftime, including several Hall-of-Famers.
Each of Bucknell's last five games have been decided in the final seconds of regulation or overtime, and after dropping the first three in this stretch, the Bison have won the last two to improve to 5-6 in the Patriot League and move just a game out of third place. Last Saturday, Bucknell won a wild 103-97 double-overtime affair against Boston University, and then the Bison eclipsed that drama on Wednesday when Achile Spadone's 37-foot bank shot at the final buzzer gave them a 60-59 win at American. Spadone's first-ever buzzer-beater wound up as the No. 1 play on ESPN SportsCenter's Top-10 on Thursday morning.
Center Amon Dörries shattered the Bucknell freshman scoring record with 36 points against Boston University and earned his second straight Patriot League Rookie of the Week honor on Monday. He followed that up with a game-high 21 points against American, his fifth 20-point showing of the season. Dörries has moved all the way up to fourth place in Bucknell history in points by a freshman with 354. He is 13 points behind Hall-of-Famer Al Leslie for the No. 3 spot.

Bucknell will be aiming for a season split with Colgate after falling 95-76 in Hamilton on Jan. 17. The Raiders are 3-2 since then, including a one-point overtime win over Boston University and a one-point OT loss to Lehigh. Bucknell is coming off one of its best defensive performances of the season at American, and the Bison will have to be at their best again on Saturday against a Colgate team that leads the league in scoring (76.4) and field-goal percentage (.488) and ranks second in 3-point percentage (.358).
Colgate is coming off a 69-55 win at Army on Wednesday. The Raiders smothered the Black Knights, holding the team to 32.7% shooting from the field and limiting their starting five to only 12 points. Ben Tweedy led Colgate with 16 points, while Alekseyenko had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Colgate features one of the league's top all-around players in Jalen Cox, who ranks third in the league in scoring at 17.0 ppg and also leads the PL in assists at 5.3 apg. Cox had a triple-double in the first meeting with the Bison, recording 13 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. Alekseyenko (14.6) and Sam Wright (12.8) also score in double figures, and Alekseyenko is the team's top rebounder at 6.7 rpg.
This will be the 129th all-time meeting between Bucknell and Colgate in a series that dates back 106 years to 1920. The Bison have a 70-58 series lead. The only other opponents that Bucknell has played at least 100 times are Lehigh (189), Lafayette (183), Gettysburg (126) and Penn State (105). As Patriot League rivals, Bucknell is 49-32, including 29-8 in Lewisburg.
The Bison snapped a nine-game losing streak to Colgate with a 66-60 win over the Raiders at Sojka Pavilion last season, but Colgate has taken 14 of the last 16 in the series. The Raiders have won 11 straight in Hamilton dating back to a 63-51 Bison decision on Jan. 15, 2018. In this year's first meeting at Cotterell Court on Jan. 17, Colgate used big runs at the start of both halves to turn back Bucknell 95-76. Colgate scored the first 11 points of the game, and after taking that 11-point lead to intermission, the Raiders tallied the first nine of the second period to stretch the lead to 20. Curtin led the Bison with 18 points, while Cox recorded 13 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists for Colgate's first triple-double since Tucker Richardson against Lafayette in 2023. Alekseyenko was the top scorer with 22 points.
These two teams recently met in back-to-back Patriot League championship games. Bucknell won 83-54 in the 2018 title tilt at Sojka Pavilion, and Colgate returned the favor with a 94-80 win at Cotterell Court in 2019. The Raiders have won six of the 10 all-time postseason meetings. The final game of John Griffin's collegiate career came in Bucknell's loss in Hamilton in the 2008 semifinals.
Up next, Bucknell hosts league-leading Navy in a CBS Sports Network-televised game on Monday at 6 p.m. The Bison fell 76-55 in the first meeting in Annapolis back on Jan. 7. That was just a one-point game at the half before Navy blew it open with a 20-3 run to start the second.
