BOSTON, Mass.- Bucknell (8-19, 5-9 Patriot League) cut a 19-point deficit to single-digits several times in the second half but Boston University (12-15, 7-7 Patriot League) blunted every Bison charge to prevail 82-69 in Saturday afternoon action. The Orange & Blue outshot the Terriers 45.8% to 42.1% but were undone by Boston's superiority on the boards. The Terriers grabbed 44 rebounds to Bucknell's 23 to gain a crucial conference win.Â
Now winners of four straight since a 103-97 double-overtime loss to Bucknell two weeks ago, Boston University started hot from the three-point line and never really cooled off from deep, finishing 13-of-29. Bucknell heaved 27 attempts but only converted nine. Michael McNair led Boston with 28 points on 9-of-18 shooting, including a scorching 6-of-11 from downtown Beantown. Three other Terriers joined him in double figures.Â
Achile Spadone paced Bucknell with 19 points. The senior was everywhere, collecting five rebounds and nabbing three steals. Amon Dörries and Jayden Williams added 15 points apiece, and Aleksander Pachucki scored 12 points off the bench. Already shorthanded doe to injury, the Bison played without starting guard Pat Curtin due to illness.Â
Bucknell cut the deficit to 55-46 with 9:40 remaining on a Dörries dunk, and the Bison fans, a sizable amount dotted the stands, came alive. But Boston University responded with one of its 13 three-pointers.Â
The Bison refused to quit and immediately pared the Boston lead back down to nine points when Pachucki drained a trey. The Terriers replied with a 7-0 run to dampen hopes and essentially seal the game.Â
Another Pachucki three sliced the deficit to 78-68 with 24 seconds left but Boston converted its free throws to prevent any heroics.Â
Bucknell's final lead of the game came with Dörries' basket at the 15:55 mark in the first half to put the Bison up 10-9. It lasted 30 seconds before a 11-2 Boston run gave the Terriers the lead for the rest of the contest. Â
Boston's largest advantage arrived with 15:07 remaining in the second half. Chance Gladden drained a three-pointer and Boston led 50-31. Bucknell countered with a 7-0 run to prevent an impossible comeback situation.Â
The Bison return home to Sojka Pavilion this Wednesday to face American in a rematch of the buzzer-beater win earlier in the month.Â
