LEWISBURG, Pa.- Myles Takats went 2-0 last weekend in dual matches against conference foes Drexel and Navy. The Bison junior recorded a major decision win and an epic decision over Navy's ranked grappler to earn his second ever EIWA Wrestler of the Week.Â
"A well deserved honor for Myles as he had a fantastic weekend," said Bucknell head coach Dan Wirnsberger. "Myles continues to improve as a wrestler and his preparation throughout the week is what gives him the confidence to perform at the highest level. He has self belief and high energy which will play an important role as he moves into the postseason."
Takats (174) started the weekend facing Drexel's Dom Findora. The Bison grappler had zero trouble with his Dragon foe, easily recording a 18-5 major decision. His win headlined a 4-0 run for Bucknell that led to the 21-17 victory over the previously undefeated in EIWA play Dragons.Â
Against Navy, he challenged No. 9 Danny Wask. Takats recovered from an early 3-1 deficit with a takedown. Navy threw the brick but the replay proved the validity. Wask rallied for the 6-5 lead on his takedown but Takats cleverly rolled away for the match-tying escape point. The two wrestlers headed into extra time. They were evenly matched and the first period passed without score. Wask earned a reversal in the next period but Takats immediately reversed him keeping the bout tied at eight. Wask knew the tiebreaker would be riding time - something Takats had accumulated - and he desperately lunged for a takedown. Takats stonewalled his attempts and time ran out on the Midshipman.Â
