Myles Takats Lands Bison of the Week
1/7/2026 10:04:00 AM | Wrestling
LEWISBURG, Pa.- Myles Takats enjoyed a banner Christmas break at the Midlands Championships and in the dual versus LIU, going a combined 6-0 against nationally ranked and competitive foes, en route to winning the 174-pound crown at the former. The feat won the Bucknell grappler Bison of the Week.
Takats dominated the competition with four of his six wins earning bonus points, including two pins. At Midlands, Takats, seeded third, tore through the opening rounds with a pin, tech fall, and a major decision to earn qualification into the next day's semifinals. In the semifinals, he faced Virginia Tech's Sergio Desiante in a rematch of their bout in the teams' dual. Takats invoked revenge for his earlier defeat to the Hokie in a 5-2 decision. No. 21 Daschle Lamer from Oregon State awaited Takats in the finals. The Bison wrestler built a steady 8-2 lead with two takedowns and escapes. Lamer scratched out a late takedown but his revival didn't come soon enough.
He became the first Bison since Kevin LeValley (149) in 2010 to win a Midlands title.
Takats followed up his performance with a pin against LIU. The 174-pound bout was the dual's final match and Takats ended the 39-3 Bucknell victory with a quick victory over Braden Brown. The Orange & Blue grappler was merciless to Brown, collecting 11 points and then finishing him off with the pin in the first round.
The Bison and Takats welcome their fifth ranked foe of the season this Saturday when #20 Cornell enters Davis Gym for a Saturday showdown.
